Paint The Way for Art!

This March, on a beautiful spring day, the Art Gaians took part in The Ripe Market Zabeel Park, & exhibited painted stools, pebbles & flower pots. The event was a fun and vibrant experience for all the students who participated. For those of you who are not familiar with the event, The Ripe Market is a weekly market that promotes an organic and healthy lifestyle and is filled with enjoyable activities and products for the whole family to enjoy.

Every term we work with Gaian art learners to put up an exhibition and encourage them to design and hand paint their very own stools, pots, pebbles, canvases, shoes and much more. At Gaia, we believe in the French Artist Henry Matisse’s words that “Creativity takes courage”, and we encourage our junior and senior artists to develop the courage to work with new concepts, ideas, techniques and venues to showcase their artistry.  This allows them to explore and nurture their creative instincts, trust their ideas and put their passion into practice. The results are truly remarkable. After many focused and exciting weeks of preparing for the exhibition, Gaians never fall short of smiles, commitment & fun while dabbing away in colour.

For weeks leading up to Ripe, learners put their heads together and brainstormed ideas and created their very own blueprints for their designs. These were based on interesting concepts that tickled their imagination. The learners then moved their designs onto different surfaces using Acrylic paints. For some learners, it was their absolute first time using acrylic paints on wooden & ceramic surfaces & it was a learning curve in understanding brush techniques & colour application. Art class is always a super fun endeavour when paints are involved, especially when you get to splash paint on yourself and your clothes!

On the day of Ripe Organic Market, The Gaia Centre’s art stall was decorated with colourful stools & adorned with quirky pebbles & pots. The learners also got to describe their artwork to curious visitors who pondered and admired the display. Preparing for events like The Ripe Market, learners get to shape their ideas and showcase their artwork & experience the joy of creating art for a show. This is incredible for enhancing their confidence in their own creative ability and we are excited to continue working with them to further develop this, for many more Markets to come. I continually enjoy the process of seeing the young Gaians’ artistic identities develop. They are surely strong with the Force!

We held Art workshops for Adults & children at The Ripe Market. Going with the organic theme, using sketch pens & paints on small canvases, Gaians & Ripe visitors participated in designing logos of what the Ripe Market meant to them.

Moving deeper into The Gaia Centre’s Solar Term, Art learners continued to ideate, design while giving importance to drawing techniques & developing it. The learners have more events to look forward to this term, so watch this space for event updates.
